Can I bring my dog?
-
Sorry but we no longer allow dogs to be brought on the walks
What are the distances of the walks?
-
Walks are in the range of 6 to 12 miles. The longer walks tend to be at a relatively fast pace (3 miles per hour) with stops for tea/coffee and lunch. The shorter walks are taken more leisurely.
What do I need to bring on the walk?
-
Good walking shoes/boots that can deal with muddy, rugged and uneven terrain (get good advice in an outdoor shop if you are unsure).
-
Appropriate outdoor clothes for the weather on the day and any weather changes. It is recommended to carry waterproofs in your rucksack even if it does not look as if it will be raining. Also wearing gaiters can be a good thing when it is likely to be muddy or wet.
-
A packed lunch, drinks and snacks, enough to keep you going for about 4 to 5 hours. It is easy to underestimate how much you need, so more is better. There is usually no opportunity to buy anything during the walk.
-
Something to sit on during breaks such as a folding mat (available in outdoor shops) or a carrier bag will keep you dry.
How do I get to the start of the walks?
-
We try to minimise car usage by car sharing. This can be by arrangement with fellow walkers or in some cases by meeting at a central location and deciding who would drive on the day. As a passenger you would be expected to pay your share of the travel (currently 30p per mile shared amongst the people in the car)
What are the current membership costs?
-
Life time membership costs £5. However, there may be occasions when a small top up of funds could be asked for.
Do you have any social occasions?
-
We have an annual evening meal and quiz (usually in August) but this can change. More recently this has been held at the Wetherby Golf Club.
-
We also have a Christmas walk (4/5 miles) followed by a Christmas lunch and Carol singing.
